Here's the honest truth: 75% of Shopify stores get less than 100 organic visitors per month (yikes). Not because their products aren't good enough, but because the small (albeit very boring) tasks that really matter aren't being fulfilled in-house. SEO is lived in the details.
The reality? SEO is not rocket science folks. It just requires knowing exactly what you and your team should handle in-house, versus what a developer can fix.
I'm giving you the exact framework that's helped stores go from invisible to irresistible. The first is an actionable guide you can implement today, and the second is about the technical fixes a developer can carry out that will multiply your results.

Your Daily SEO Tasks
Adding New Products
Product Titles (Most Important!)
- Use words your customers search for
- Include your brand, product type, and key features too.
- Good: "Handmade Ceramic Tamegroute Centrepiece - Green Glazed Pottery"
- Bad: "Mug #123" or "Beautiful Green Creation" "Green Mug"
Product Descriptions
- Write for your customers, not search engines, use the language they might use, inspire them AND make it easy for them to understand the product.
- Include keywords naturally (don't stuff them in)
- Focus on the benefits: "Perfect for decorating the dream dining table, bring colour and intrigue to your dinner party."
- Aim for 150-300 words minimum!
Product Images
- Name your image files descriptively before uploading (please please PLEASE).
- Good: "green-tamegroute-ceramic-table-centrepiece.jpg"
- Bad: "IMG_001.jpg" or "DSC_1234.jpg"
- Add the alt text describing what's in the image.
- Use high-quality images but keep file sizes reasonable (under 300KB).
Content Creation
Blog Posts (Do this weekly if possible!)
- Write about topics related to your products. You are more interesting than you think and there is more to say than you think.
- What is the intention behind the post? How will each piece of writing bring joy or inspiration, educate, make something clearer or more exciting.
- Answer the questions your customers ask.
- Examples for homewares: "How to style the dream dinner party table in a small space", "Caring for your handmade pottery".
- Include 2-3 internal links to your products naturally.
Product Collections
- Write unique descriptions for each collection page, not too long, not too short. 100 words is great, get your keywords in there naturally and make it inspiring.
- Don't just list products, explain what makes this collection special and why eg. "Take the hassle out of hosting with our striking ceramic table centrepieces, each piece in the collection is carefully made to create intrigue and give you the creative freedom to get creative."
- Use the keywords your customers would search for your pieces.
Image Management
This is one of the easiest ways to rank better, especially in AI generative search. Using original imagery (instead of stock) and tagging your images correctly are imperative.
Before Uploading Any Image:
- Resize your images to appropriate dimensions (don't upload massive files, please).
- Compress using a free tool like TinyPNG.com
- Name the file descriptively, not too long though.
- Most importantly, keep file sizes under 500KB when possible.
After Uploading:
- Always add alt text describing the image to your files (Shopify > Content > Files) and to your product images too.
- Use your keywords naturally, but focus on accurate description. Short and sweet.
Writing Product Content
Meta Descriptions (The snippet people see in Google)
- Write compelling 150-160 character summaries.
- Include your main keywords.
- Make people want to click thorugh by making your copy inspiring and enticing or useful (depending on your product).
- "Discover our collection of handcrafted ceramic table centrepieces. Each piece is unique, dishwasher safe, and perfect for entertaining creatively. Shop now."
Headers and Structure
- Use clear headings to break up text.
- Include keywords in headings, naturally.
- Structure: H1 for page title, H2 for main sections, H3 for subsections
