Get the Checklist: Master Digital Visual Merchandising

When designing a product page, showcasing related products is a key strategy to boost sales and enhance customer experience. By thoughtfully curating complementary items, strategically placing them, and using clear, engaging labels, you can increase average order value while making the shopping experience more seamless and enjoyable for your customers.
  1. Ensure Product Relevance
    • Select related products that complement the main item.
    • Do they naturally enhance the customer’s experience or serve as useful add-ons?
  2. Place Strategically on your PDP
    • Position the related products section below the product description or other key areas on the page.
    • Offer related products in the cart or slide-out drawer for effective upselling.
    • Use popups sparingly and only for time-sensitive offers or bundles. eg. 'You might need this XYZ too'.
  3. Use Purposeful Language
    • Use engaging and descriptive language to introduce related products.
    • Clearly indicate why the products are related (e.g., “Pairs well with this,” “Complete the set”, "You will also love...").
    • Avoid using generic headings like “Related Products.”
  4. Limit Choices, Aviod Cognitive Overload
    • Show 3–5 related products to avoid overwhelming customers.
    • Curate the options to simplify decision-making and guide the customer toward additional purchases.
  5. Maintain Visual Consistency
    • Ensure the related products follow the same photography style and layout as the main product.
    • Make sure the product images align with the overall page design for a cohesive look.
  6. Incentivise AOV with bundles
    • Offer incentives, like bundles to encourage customers to add related products as well as experiencing the joy of product combinations.
    • Highlight these incentives clearly to drive action and increase conversions.
